Biology and CultureEdit
Coming from the treacherous world of Kintan, the humanoid Niktos developed into a race of alert and stubborn beings. They had been forced to contend with numerous hazards of their homeworld, such as spinedragons, tuskbeasts, and trogwhales. Many off-worlders viewed them as barbarians and grunts, but they had developed a rich, technologically-sound culture and cooperated within their social structure to continue their future.
There were five sub-races of Nikto, each adapted to the regions of Kintan that they inhabit. Their overall appearance is fairly constant: rough skin, flat nosed, opaque eyed, approximately 1.6 to 2.0 meters in height, and basic humonoid shape. Each have a clear, keratin-like second eyelid that can be closed to allow sight in harsh conditions. And, they are tough, reliable fighters.
The most common and recognizable Nikto was the Kadjain'sa or "Red" Nikto. Superbly adapted to desert and sun-baked environments, they had eight small, stubby horns over their brows. Their flat noses had a protective flap, preventing sand and other contaminants from being inhaled. They also had a pair of small breathing tubes on their necks, to aid in the harsh hot conditions.
The Kadas'sa or "Green" Nikto came from the forests, and resembled their desert-dwelling cousins closely, but they were avid tree-climbers. Their green scaley faces had radial horns around their eyes. Another unique characteristic that they had were the long climbing claws on their hands, which they also used in combat.
The Esral'sa or "Mountain" Nikto hailed from the mountainous regions of the planet. On their faces, rather than horns, they had fins which aided them in regulating their body heat and improved their hearing. This subspecies had blue-grey skin and nose coverings similar to the Red Nikto.
The "Pale" Nikto or Gluss'sa as they were called, came from the Gluss'elta Islands. They had a culture rich in nautical exploration and sailing. They had white-gray skin and eye horns similar to the Kadas'sa and smaller fins than the Esral'sa.
The final Nikto subspecies were known as M'shunto'su or "Southern" Nikto had no horns but did have a covered nose and several pairs of breathing tubes. These tubers were larger than those of Kajain'sa'Nikto and acted as primitive ultrasonic sensory organs. Their skin varied from white to yellow, though occassionally there would be an orange one.
They acknowledged and respected other races of the galaxy, but believed that theirs was a superior one, and would defend this belief against those that challenged it. They also performed very well in groups, each one knowing the capabilities of the others, and overcoming the odds through teamwork. A number of Nikto had left Kintan and found employment in Hutt-run organizations, since the presence of Hutt influence is entrenched in Nikto culture. This was not surprising, given Kintan's proximity to the region known as Hutt Space, though many off-worlders stipulated that the natives of Kintan were nothing more than slaves to the Hutts' bidding. Some had decided to go elsewhere, however, and joined other organizations, a few even formed their own businesses, but none were known to have reached any level of prosperity as of yet. They were inherantly fierce competitors and stubborn personalities.
Esral’sa’Nikto Fins: These Nikto can withstand great extremes in temperature for long periods. Their advanced hearing gives them a +1 bonus to search and Perception rolls relating to hearing.
Kadas’sa’Nikto Claws: Their claws add +1D to climbing and do STR+2 damage.
Kajain’sa’Nikto Stamina: These Nikto have great stamina in desert environments. They receive a +1D bonus to both survival and stamina rolls.
Gluss'sa'Nikto Nautical Skills: These Nikto have spent much time on the ocean, and so gain a +1D bonus to Hover Vehicle Operation when related to water based skimmers and vessels. They also gain +1D bonus to survival roll when upon the water and predicting storms and other seafaring occurances.
M'shunto'su'Nikto Ultrasonic Sensory: The ultrasonic sensory organs grant the Nikto a +1D bonus to search and perception rolls related to hearing.
Vision: All Nikto have a natural eye-shielding of a transparent keratin-like substance. They suffer no adverse effects from sandstorms or similar conditions, nor does their vision blur underwater.
Nikto are a fierce and competive species, and while they are not needlessly aggressive they are dangerous combatants.
