Biology and CultureEdit
The Mon Calamari hailed from the water world Dac, and were used to moist climates and found arid areas, such as deserts, uncomfortable, unnatural and painfully drying for this scaled hides. They shared their homeworld with the Quarren. In terms of behavior, they were peaceful, gentle and soft-spoken, but could be forceful when pushed or facing oppression. They tended to see life in very organized terms, and they had no tolerance for those who would break or bend laws for personal gain, such as smuggling circles or corrupt officials.
The Mon Calamari, or Calamarians, were an intelligent bipedal, salmon-colored amphibious species with webbed hands, high-domed heads, and huge eyes. While salmon was the most common colour, some Calamarians were deep blue or had golden flecked scales. While both genders had small 'whiskers' off of the top of their lips, mature males grew bristles under their chin, which grew more numerous as the male aged.
As water covered most of Dac's surface, these fish-like beings were amphibious and tended to stay closer to the surface of the great oceans and make use of the few islands upon Dac. They were shore-dwellers, land creatures with an affinity for water and who mastered aquaculture and subsisted largely on fish, crustaceans, kelp and fruit. The Calamari discovered and contacted the deep-sea dwelling Quarren; after some initial confusion, they developed a symbiotic civilization for the Quarrens were able to mine the minerals at the ocean's floor, thus allowingthe Calamari to build floating cities.
The floating cities of Calamari extended both above and below the water, providing needed space for fish farms, industrial centers, and living facilities. Wavespeeders traveled from city to city, and shuttles move back and forth from the great space platforms that orbit the planet to the cities that rode the waves. Quarren lived in the deepest levels of the cities, while Mon Calamari preferred the levels closer to the sun. Calamarians had created a highly civilized culture: art, music, literature, and science were at a level of creativity unsurpassed in the known galaxy.
Moist Environments: In moist environments, Mon Calamari receive a +1D bonus for all Dexterity, Perception, and Strength tasks.
Dry Environments: In dry environments, Mon Calamari receive a -1D penalty for all Dexterity, Perception, and Strength tasks.
Amphibious: Mon Calamari can breathe both air and water and can withstand the extreme pressures of the ocean depths.
Strong Resillience: When the Galactic Empire came to enslave the Calamari, they were not easily taken, and the race who had a history without war, turned simple tools into weapons to protect their freedom.
