Biology and Culture[]

The Massassi were the subspecies of the ancient Sith race that was enslaved by the exiled Dark Jedi on Korriban. They were fearsome, loyal, and formidable warriors and lived solely to serve their Sith masters, but when on their own, dedicated themselves only to whatever life they choose.

Like most members of the Sith race, the Massassi were red-skinned humanoids with distinctly fierce predatory features and tentacle beards on the males, and they were more muscular and taller than most other Sith. Due to their strength and size, Massassi tended to be more aggressive and thus formed the military of the Sith Empire. Massassi also had blue blood, quills and bone spurs lined their skin which had been reinforced by Sith Alchemy performed on them by Dark Jedi exiles. These sharp bone spurs were found uniformally on the elbows of the Massassi. They also had cartilaginous eyebrow-stalks over their glowing yellow eyes which appeared to be devoid of whites or even pupils. Their mouths were simian in nature, and they had small noses and ears coupled with a receding chin. Massassi also had three digits on their hands and feet.

The Massassi were ruthless and efficient soldiers that engaged in supposedly primitive practices such as sentient sacrifice and held a strong caste system, their civilization was quite sophisticated. They saw these acts not as cruel or barbaric, but simply basic aspects of existence. The Massassi language may have used the Sith language characters and words, but have since evolved.

As with the Sith, war and violence were just as much a part of the natural order of life as peace or serenity for the Massassi. In addition to the focus on war and fighting, the Massassi were also loyal and organized. Even though they were not extremely intelligent, they could be trained well enough to carry out complex battle plans and maintain their equipment, starships, and weaponry. The Massassi also used a more primitive version of the Sith lanvarok which could also be used as a battle axe; this variant was known as the Massassi lanvarok, as well and alchemically hardened armor.

Since their 'resurrection' on Zoist and Korriban in approximately 18 ABY, and the lack of a ruling Sith Lord, the Massassi have further developed their own culture as a warrior people, with tribes fighting for territorries and resources. The alchemically treated spurs seemed to be a genetic trait, passed on from modified Massassi adults to their unmodified younglings. The spurs developed painfully when the youngling approaches adulthood.

Special Abilities[]

Ovair Gynt vs Massassi thumb

Jedi ambushed by Massassi warriors.

Low Light Vision: Massassi can see twice as far as a normal human in poor lighting conditions.

Warrior Culture: Massassi are trained from birth to be efficient soldiers. As such, Massassi characters gain a permanent +1D bonus to search and intimidate skill rolls.

Bone Spurs: To utalise the bone spurs on a Massassi's body, especially the ones on the elbows, one needs to +check brawling and on a successful hit, the spurs deal strength+2D damage. There is a 1 in 6 chance that spurs not from the elbows will snap off.

Story Factors[]

Thought to be Extinct: Most scholars believe the Massassi were driven to extinction prior to the Rise of the Empire, and while some may have survived on worlds controlled by the Sith, the majority of the Galaxy do not know that the species was 'resurrected'.
